Seasonal Affective Disorder

 MEANING

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression that occurs at the time of change in seasons. People tend to feel low as compared to their usual self. It is generally seen in Winters. It is most commonly seen in women over men.

SYMPTOMS

Some common symptoms are:

  • Feeling depressed most of the time.
  • Changes in Appetite.
  • Changes in weight.
  • problems in sleep.
  • Feeling of hopelessness.
  • Feeling of unworthiness.
  • Loss of interest in pre enjoyable activities.
  • Difficulties in concentration.
  • Frequent thoughts of death or suicide.
CAUSES

Some common causes include:

  • Deficit in vitamin D
  • Disturbance in chemicals like serotonin and melatonin 
TREATMENT

Patients with Seasonal affective disorder can consult to psychiatrist or psychologist.
